What format should I use?
Format selection depends on the format supported by your reading device. In our store, you may find books in the most popular formats:
- epub epub – a format actively promoted by Adobe based on HTML. It is supported by almost all modern software and devices.
- Windows & Mac OS applications: Adobe Digital Editions, Calibre, Emerson, etc.
- Android applications Aldiko, CoolReader, FBReaderJ, Moon+ Reader, etc.
- iOS applications: Bluefire Reader, iBooks, etc.
- Windows Mobile applications: AlReader, Mobipocket.
- fb2 - an open format based on XML, directly read by FBReader and many other applications. Readers and editors exist almost for any OS. Also, a converter tool FB2Any
- htm - hypertext. May be opened by web browser, many readers and editors.
- isilo3 - specialised format for an advanced reader iSilo available for many platforms (Windows mobile, Palm).
- java - java books for reading on a mobile phone. Available for all phone models supporting Java.
- lit - a format for Microsoft Reader. This application exists for the entire Windows series.
- lrf - a format used by Sony Reader devices
- mobi - a format for Amazon Kindle devices
- pdf - an Adobe Acrobat document. A6 version is best for reading on many e-ink readers such as Sony PRS. You may read it with Adobe Acrobat Reader or many other tools.
- rb - books for specialised devices Rocket e-book/REB1100.
- rtf - formatted text, convenient for reading on computer. It may be opened with WordPad and OpenOffice.org - Windows; TextEdit - Mac OS X.
- txt - a standard text file. The largest part of formatting will be lost, including pictures, but book may be opened in any application.
