The purpose of this work was to describe the types of canoes found at that time on the area of Puget Sound and then summarize, as much as possible, the distribution of these types into other regions based on meager information. The location of Puget sound lies in a general way toward the center of this region, and in this surrounding, the widest variety of canoes seem to be in use. The samples on which this work is based were gathered for the Museum of the American Indian, Heye Foundation, near Seattle
